How Blow Molding Technology Works
There are three types of blow molding processes: extrusion blow molding (EBM), injection blow molding (IBM), and injection stretch blow molding (ISBM). Plastic blow molding typically starts with a parison, a tube-like preform element that is blown up like a balloon to assume the shape of the mold, such as for a plastic container.
An injection blow molding machine uses a double-station process as the preform has to be molded in a separate stage. However, with extrusion blow molding systems, raw materials are heated and extruded into a continuous tube from which the final products are formed. This single-station approach results in faster cycle times and lower overall cost.
